Doulas on Bikes is proud and excited to be celebrating 10 years as a business in the local Toronto community supporting other families in having beautiful births and a healthy, easeful postpartum recovery.
In the past decade, we’ve had the honour and privilege of assisting and supporting hundreds of families in one of the most important times of their lives as they welcome offspring into the world and adjust to the new configuration of their lives.
We have grown beyond merely being doulas to also being childbirth and newborn care educators. Mira is, hands down, one of the most passionate and knowledgeable people on cloth diapering. By our estimates, she has helped keep 50,000 plastic diapers (and growing) out of landfill.
As we’ve helped families grow, our business has also grown. We are a family-run business starting with Mira and Vera which has now also grown to be supported by big sister Lana. And not only has Vera been attending the births of clients over these 10 years, but also to friends, fellow doulas, and even her own sister – twice!
It’s our family supporting your family. How cool is that?
We are committed to our communities! It has been important for us to be active participants and contributors for the wellbeing of everyone. We find ways to support the environment like the sponsorship of the Junction Pollinator Gardens (we even gave free tours!), we’ve organized donation items between clients and low-income families including diaper drives. And we bike! And we encourage families to be eco-friendly parents with baby-wearing and simple living. Babies don’t have to be garbage-making beings.
What does the next 10 years have in the works?
Our passion and appetite for learning and service continues to grow. We’re excited to be offering even more classes this year at Oona on the Queensway and online. We are available with ever-growing skills to be your postpartum care support, and we are renting birth pools in Toronto’s West end! We continue to attend your births, process your placentas, and find new ways to network and grow our reach. Will you help spread the word?
